Overview
Charlie horse cramps—sudden, painful muscle spasms, usually in the legs—are very common during pregnancy. Up to half of pregnant people experience them, especially in the second and third trimesters, and they often occur at night. While these cramps can be uncomfortable, they are generally considered a normal part of pregnancy and are not usually a sign of a serious problem.
